Ms. Tanyelle L. Hannah has been in education for 16 years. Her experience within the district includes being a Teacher, Teacher Leader, Dean of Students, Resident Principal, Assistant Principal, and the role she’s proudest of is, PARENT. She is currently serving as Principal of Benjamin E. Mays Academy and was named the 2022 Englewood Community Action Council Principal of the Year. Tanyelle is a graduate of Hampton University and Dominican University. She continued her educational administrative studies at Chicago State University and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at National Louis University. In 2021, she was named as one of CPS’ Distinguished Leaders with “The Game Changer Award” for her exceptional work in Realizing the vision in their school, Closing the achievement gap, and/or Promoting equity and inclusion, etc.” Currently, she is serving on the first ever elected CPS Principal Advisory Council. PAC helps shape district policies, provide feedback to the CEO and CEdO on relevant district topics, and inform our future work and goals as a district. Principal Hannah serves on the committee to plan CPS’ Summer Leadership Summit for all CPS’ district leaders, sat on the committee to reimagine CPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities manual (Code of Conduct), and is also a Network Liaison. She also enjoys speaking at conferences on topics such as Social and Emotional Learning, Culture and Climate, Distributed Leadership, Equity, and student achievement in urban communities. Principal Hannah grounds her leadership in providing equitable opportunities for all, building on diversity and solution oriented practices. She is committed to collaboration, engagement and sharing systems that are proven to strengthen any learning environment.
