“In 2011, I joined District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) as Dean of Students and Programs. In this role, I served as the Homeless Student Liaison. Working with my students experiencing homelessness reminded me of my trauma and triumphs as a DCPS student experiencing homelessness. Since then, I have had a relentless vision of creating an elevated educational residential experience for students experiencing homelessness. There are fellowships across the country but Surge is here in my community where I want to serve. Moreover, unlike other fellowships designed to create new leaders and new schools, Surge supports my new vision to support students, leaders and my community.”
