“I hope my Surge experience provides me with the added confidence to more frequently use my voice and to share knowing that my lens of experience is a valuable one necessary to reach greater outcomes for our students. My hope is also to connect particularly with other emerging leaders who have the desire to do good and connect with them to find ways to push all of our dreams for our youth further. I hope to contribute to the experience my tacit knowledge of what it felt like to be a student in one of the best and worst school districts in my hometown, and how despite education in an underserved environment, schools should tap into the higher level of confidence that exists when students are in environments with others who look like them. I also hope to share my concerns about school discipline, how we cannot be quick to suspend with limited evidence or lack of due process, and how we must focus on alternative consequences.”
