Welcome our new Director of Finance, Monica Mata

Monica was born in Oakland and raised in the unincorporated community of Ashland in Alameda County in the San Francisco Bay Area. Rooted in her experience as a first-generation college graduate and daughter of Mexican immigrants, she has built a career focused on reimagining systems and creating more equitable pathways for historically marginalized communities.

Monica has held financial leadership roles in education and social impact organizations such as KIPP Northern California. Through her own consulting practice, she supports mission-driven organizations by strengthening internal systems, managing complex grants, and improving financial clarity. Prior to consulting, she served as a Program Examiner at the White House Office of Management and Budget. Beyond numbers, she is a collaborator and communicator who bridges the gap between finance and people. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Economy from UC Berkeley and a Master of Public Policy from the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs.

Outside of her professional endeavors, you’ll find Monica channeling her “cool tía” energy with her niece and nephew, practicing her Portuguese, embracing movement through running, hiking, or strength training, and planning her next foodie or travel adventure.
