Walter Wright-El Shabazz is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, and a first-generation college student. He is a graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s in Political Science, Black Studies, and Spanish. He continued his education at Liberty University receiving his Master of Education in Higher Education and Urban Education K-12 Leadership. Mr. Wright-El Shabazz has served in different roles in education, starting as a High School History teacher in North Carolina and Texas, and working across several school systems in operations and instructional leadership roles through all K-12 grade bands. He serves as a Founding Resident Principal at a Dual Language Elementary School in Denver, Colorado. Mr. Wright-El Shabazz is a current member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., UpLIFT Movement Cohort, Colorado Association of School Executives, and currently serves as a board member of the Colorado Men of Color Collaborative. Mr. Wright-El Shabazz is passionate about education equity policy and continuing to move the needle against anti-blackness and toward a more anti-racist system for the sake of our black and brown students and educators.
