“Participating in Surge means joining a powerful community of leaders who understand the weight of oppression, the sting of microaggressions, and the persistence of systemic inequity. It offers a safe and affirming space where I can show up fully, both as a learner and a contributor. I bring the lived experience of growing up on the West Side of Chicago in the Austin neighborhood, along with the professional journey of serving as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal in North Lawndale and West Englewood. As an ordained minister, I also bring a spiritual foundation that grounds my leadership. Through Surge, I hope to strengthen my capacity in networking, grant writing, and building sustainable systems while designing programs that uplift Black and Brown educators and ensure children leave my school not only academically prepared but deeply loved, valued, and seen.”
