“The rapper and wordsmith put together his last album entitled “Feet of Clay” and noted that it was composed “during the death throes of a crumbling empire.” I find myself seeking to be a part of Surge at these throes as well hoping to begin again amidst the rubble. I am hoping that through this fellowship I can continue to grow and develop as an aspiring beam of light and as a follower of Black women. I hope to be able to be a part of a network of human redwoods who are rooted in liberation and transformation, and that I can hold onto as the winds of White supremacy, settler colonialism, heterosexism, ableism and patriarchy blow. I hope to build a bond with folx I can hold onto on the days when my faith may be lost, in times such as these.”
