“Becoming a Surge fellow allows me to amplify my voice by strategically utilizing my platform and experience to heighten mental health awareness for Black and Latinx students in DC. As the world often tries to silence Black women, I believe Surge will uplift, empower, and ignite the fire I know that is within me, in hopes I can continue to do that for our students. I look forward to building a community with individuals who aren’t afraid to push against the narrative and help shift the culture of education in DC. Now is the time to step into my power, curate my experience, and ask for help to disrupt the system. ”
