Surge Institute is thrilled to announce David Henry’s appointment as the new Vice President of Development. With a rich history of dedication to service and equity for marginalized communities, David brings over 15 years of fundraising and leadership experience in the nonprofit sector.
David’s journey is deeply personal and driven by his lived experience as a member of a Mexican immigrant family. This background has not only shaped his professional ethos but also catalyzed his commitment to creating impactful and sustainable change within underserved communities. Prior to joining Surge, David played pivotal roles in organizations focused on anti-trafficking, climate-resilient job creation, and equitable education.

David holds an impressive academic background, being an alumnus of Fordham University and having earned a certificate in Connected Leadership from Yale University. He also actively contributes to his community by serving on the board of directors at his local United Way.

David resides in New Haven, CT, with his wife and two daughters. He is enthusiastic about bringing his passion and expertise to Surge Institute, aiming to further the organization’s mission of empowering Black and Brown leaders and transforming educational equity.
