We are excited to announce a remarkable achievement in our leadership ranks. Surge Institute CEO and founder, Carmita Semaan, has been selected to The Highland Project’s Cohort Three, a prestigious recognition that underscores her exceptional leadership and commitment to elevating educational leaders of color.
“I’m excited to join a community of black women who know who they are, whose they are, and who they are called to serve,” she said. “The Highland Project sees us beyond our titles and our accolades. This community truly sees US, the brilliance and genius that is our birthright, and invests in our ideas to co-create infinite possibilities for ALL.”
The Highland Project, a dynamic coalition of Black women leaders, is dedicated to designing and leading solutions that create multi-generational wealth and change for Black communities. Since its inception in 2020, the Highland Project has committed $3M in flexible, charitable capital to support a diverse group of 30 Highland Leaders across the country. This commitment reflects their profound belief in building a better America by listening to, centering, investing in, and sustaining Black women. Cohort Three adds 15 Black women leaders, ranging in focus from education to economic empowerment, to political agency, and well-being.
The Highland Project focuses on investing in Black women leaders across four essential sectors, all aimed at building equitable opportunity. Their leaders are renowned as innovators from across the nation, driving bold solutions that result in multi-generational wealth and change for Black communities. Carmita’s selection to this esteemed group highlights her significant contributions and aligns perfectly with the Surge Institute’s mission to advance leaders of color in educational spaces.
Please join us in congratulating Carmita on this well-deserved honor, as she continues to lead and inspire in her commitment to diverse leadership and equity in education.
