“The surge academy is about the uprising and pushing forward through adversity. It’s not just about believing in yourself but serving a cause greater than yourself. As a surge fellow, I will make it my mission to establish a community with like-minded change agents and servant leaders of the society and culture that will push me to think critically about systemic issues in the school communities we serve. I know I’ll receive the tools and skill sets to be confident in my abilities to educate, facilitate, and lead with spirit, purpose, and pride. I want to continue developing my skills in organizational management, strategic planning, relationship management, and navigating complex environments. In addition, I aim to contribute my passion for community outreach, assist in infiltrating the system to dismantle injustices, and coach others to advocate for vulnerable and oppressed populations in the education system.”
