Brandon D. Clayton is an experienced educational leader with over nine years of administrative experience and a deep passion for equity, excellence, and student success. Currently serving as the proud PrinciPAL of Takoma Elementary School in Washington, DC, Brandon is dedicated to fostering a high-performing, inclusive school culture where every student—particularly Black and Brown children—feels loved, challenged, and prepared for the future.

A former Teacher of the Year in Leon County Schools (FL) and a district-wide Reading Coach, Brandon’s career spans over two decades, beginning as a third through seventh-grade teacher before transitioning into leadership roles. Prior to leading Takoma ES, he served as Principal at Carter G. Woodson Elementary (‘Tha Wood’) and Assistant Principal at Lone Star Elementary in Duval County Public Schools (FL). His leadership philosophy is rooted in mentorship, culturally responsive teaching, and instructional excellence, ensuring that students, teachers, and staff are supported and empowered.

Brandon is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Howard University, with a research focus on mentorship for Black male principals in the K-12 educational system, particularly at the elementary level. He firmly believes in the power of representation and mentorship as key drivers for developing strong Black male leaders in education.

Affectionately known as the “Kulture Changer”, Brandon is committed to transforming school climates, strengthening instructional practices. A firm believer in the power of education to change lives, Brandon often says: “If I can’t do anything, I can teach.”
