Who We Are

Prioritizing the need for diverse leadership in education.

The Surge Institute develops and elevates leaders of color who are creating transformative change in education, for young people, their families, and the communities they come from. We've built a national network of fellows and alumni who lead differently because of who they are.

Identity-Rooted

Our work centers who leaders are, not just what they do. Soul Circle, Leadership Stories, and Critical Collective are the model, not add-ons.

Community-Centered

Built on vulnerability, relationship, and honest engagement with the realities leaders are navigating right now.

Cohort-Based

Peer relationships are the outcome, not a side effect. Fellows build a national community that lasts beyond the program.

Our Programming

A few of the ways we're building leaders right now.

From first-year fellows to alumni entrepreneurs, here's where Surge shows up nationally. Across cities, schools, and organizations, Surge develops and connects education leaders at every stage of their leadership journey.

Surge Academy
